Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

With a solid basis in the philosophies of mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a treatment approach that has become very popular recently.

ACT uses mindfulness to help you examine your negative thoughts, feelings, character traits and behaviours, without judgement. You learn to accept these aspects of yourself without letting them affect you in the way they always have. You learn techniques to diffuse the negative thoughts and identify avoidance coping styles.

It does this by looking overall at your personal values, what is important to you and who you want to be. It teaches you to commit to changing your behaviours and achieving your goals.

ACT is helpful in treating many mental health conditions and emotional issues, including depression, anxiety, grief, eating disorders and addictive behaviours.
