Adult Autism Assessments

Adult Autism Assessments with Psychologist Bree Taplin

We’re excited to share that our Psychologist, Bree Taplin, is now offering Autism Assessments for adults (18+).

Bree has a particular passion for supporting women who may be seeking greater understanding of their neurotype (perhaps you’ve had an “aha!” moment after your child’s diagnosis). That said, she warmly welcomes people of all genders and life experiences.

Bree believes in creating a world that embraces all neurotypes. She understands that gaining insight into your own neurotype, at any age, can be a deeply validating experience, opening the door to greater self-compassion and understanding.

Assessment Details

  • Available via telehealth on Thursdays
  • Typically involves 2 appointments, each 1.5–2 hours in length

  • Your second appointment will be scheduled with Bree at the conclusion of your first session

The Process

  • To book your initial appointment, please email hello@themindfulhub.com.au.
  • Upon booking, you’ll receive an intake form and 2–3 questionnaires to complete before your appointment. This helps Bree understand a little about your life and why you’re seeking an assessment.
  • Initial appointment (1.5–2 hours). Focused on exploring your life, day-to-day experiences, and childhood history.
  • Second appointment (1.5–2 hours). Completion of the MIGDAS – a neuroaffirming, conversational, and relaxed assessment of autism. Bree will schedule this with you at the end of your first appointment.
  • Comprehensive report. Bree will prepare your report, which will be emailed to you within 4–6 weeks of your second appointment.
  • Feedback/debrief session (30–60 minutes). An opportunity to discuss your results, explore recommendations, and ask any questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this report help me obtain NDIS funding?

No. NDIS requires an assessment of functional capacity alongside a diagnostic report. If you are seeking a report to support NDIS funding, we recommend seeking an assessment with a psychologist offering this service.

Do you offer ADHD assessments?

No. If you would like to be assessed for ADHD and are considering medication, we recommend completing an assessment through a psychiatrist. You can obtain a referral through your GP. This is the cheapest option, as psychiatrists will complete their own assessments even if you have a pre-existing diagnosis of ADHD from a psychologist.

As part of an autism assessment, we will screen for ADHD traits and recommend whether an ADHD assessment may be useful.

Do you assess children or adolescents?

Not at this stage.

Do you offer assessments on other days?

We may be able to complete assessments on an alternative day on request. Please email the clinic and we can look into this for you.

What should I expect when attending an appointment?

The appointment will be held on-line using a secure video conferencing system called Halaxy. You will be emailed a link approximately 24-48 hours before the appointment.

You do not need to download anything before the appointment, as Halaxy is web-based.

The assessment will be relaxed and conversational. We welcome you to take as many breaks as you need, and move about the room in any way that you need to.

Do you need information from a family member for the assessment?

Information from a family member is useful in understanding how your traits may have presented in childhood, however, we understand that this is not always possible. The absence of information from family members is not a barrier to a diagnosis. We will discuss this in our first appointment.
